I saw Big Bird on some morning show a coupe of years ago when Sesame Street was having some other anniversary. The show’s host asked Big Bird what it was like being on the air for 35 years-and Big Bird said-Well, I’m only six years old so I don’t know anything about that. The Host tried a couple of more times and again the a-hole in the Big Bird costume says that he is only six years old and can’t answer that question. Ok, I understand being in character, but for crying out loud.
Like a lot of kids I grew up watching Big Bird, Oscar, Ernie & Burt and the entire Sesame Street cast, so I feel a bit old as the show turns 40 on November 10. My favorite character was always Oscar The Grouch, a fellow after my own heart. I still miss the voice of Kermit The Frog as portrayed by Jim Henson, but then, Kermit was also more of a guest star on Sesame Street.
I was also pretty found of Grover, a super hero and all around nice guy that always seemed to have problems with that guy who spoke in sound effects. Then there was Elmo, the little red monster who has pretty much taken over all things Sesame Street. I’m sure there will be man more anniversaries to come.

I may have learned the equivalent of several years’ worth of elementary education from watching Sesame Street
