Anchorwoman Lauren Jones So What?

I was in Tyler, TX a few months ago when this show was about to be filmed. There were giant billboards all over the city that showed the blond bombshell’s face and read She’s Coming. Now that was a subtle Fox Network promo. The story soon broke that there was going to be a sort of reality show filmed in town using this ditzy woman as an anchorwoman.
Now I was one of those people that was not overly upset that perky little Katie Couric got the nod to host the Evening News. So what? It’s a job that calls for reading a tele-prompter for thirty minutes, minus commericals. Any idiot can do that job. So how much less of an idiot does it take to read a tele-prompter in Tyler, TX?
This notion that it takes a journalism degree to read is right up there with the idea that it takes a meteorologist to stand in front of a green screen and point at a satellite image of a cloud. All it should take to be a local news person is a good set of teeth and a willingness to act like you care once in a while. The Sports guy usually looks like a jock, the news folks never look like nerds or geeks though, do they?
So it would not have mattered if she had been hired as a real news anchor. The fact that it isn’t a real reality show is kind of beside the point to me.
