Barry Bonds 756 and counting

Barry Bond broke Hank Arron’s home run record by getting #756. Barry Bonds cards will be worth more, especially the Barry Bonds rookie card from 1987. But you have to wonder if Barry Bonds memorabilia will really be a sound investment.
Chris Rock was on HBO the other night with Bob Costas talking about the sanctity of baseball records. Costas said something about how great Babe Ruth was and Chris kind of snorted in response. So Costas ask Chris what he thought about the Babe.
Rock started off by saying Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb’s records were bullshit, as they didn’t play against the best players of the time.
It’s not that I don’t like Babe Ruth, I just don’t think he was the best of his time. Satchel Paige was striking people out from his wheel chair at age 63! And he was tenth best. There were nine Negro players better than him!”
“It’s almost like saying – I won the New York City Marathon this year – but no Kenyans ran!”
“It’s not a sport until brothers show up – it’s just a game.
I think Rock has a point and he was damned funny on the show. To some extend, all records are bullshit. My only question might be, what the hell is Chris Rock doing on a sports show anyway? I am not a total sports nut, so I don’t watch Costas Now that much, does he always have a comedian giving additional commentary?
And if Babe wasn’t the best of his time because he didn’t play against black players, is Bonds really the best of his time if he played against players that weren’t using steroids? Assuming there are any baseball players that aren’t using steroids. Barry Bonds and Steroids is still going to be a bigger story than Barry Bonds hits a thousand home runs. Because Barry Bonds without steroids would not have broken any records.
