Bill Maher and Live TV

HBO’s Bill Maher has a live TV show, something of an endangered species, and last night’s show is why. There were a number of hecklers/protesters in the show’s audience. They seem to be of the opinion that Bill Maher should admit that Bush brought down the Twin Towers. Bill Maher laughed a couple of times and tried to carry on with the show, but the hecklers keep right on heckling. He finally stands up and asks “Is there no fucking security in this place?” and goes out to run the hecklers off in person. By the time he gets there, there are security personnel escorting the trouble makers out of the crowd. There were several loud mouths though and it took a few minutes to get them all out.
Bill Maher said that he doesn’t believe Bush brought down the Twin Towers. I think that Bush did not directly bring down the Twin Towers. I was working at an army base in Kansas on Sept 10, 2001. There were guards at the gate, which was normally unguarded. I have read other reports of other military bases having guards on duty that did not normally have guards before 9/11. So there was a warning, I can guarantee that much, and Bush and his Posse knew about the warning. And did next to nothing about it.
Having said that, what the hell is Real Time’s Bill Maher supposed to be doing about it? I like Bill Maher, he is funny and his New Rules usually make more sense than the dumbass laws that Congress wastes all its time working on. But like Jon Stewart, he isn’t a real news person, he’s a comedian with a fake Meet The Press format. But he does give his opinions as if they are real and should matter to someone. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. But as Bill Maher says, its his damn show and he can do whatever the hell he wants.
It’s interesting that this show is still live, since everything has a delay and we will never see a live Superbowl again just in case some famous has-been decides to go topless once more. The fact that I couldn’t make out most of what the hecklers were saying may have been why the Security Guards didn’t move in immediately. This could have been a joke and they just weren’t in on it.
At least they were real protestors that had something to say. A few years ago it would just been Bobabooy. But then Howard Stern is so last decade.
