Boot to The Head

Back in the good old days I used to listen to Dr Demento, which was a syndicated radio show which played songs that were often shocking bad or good. The problem was that you never knew which was which until you had already heard the song. Comedy songs have a long history, as Dr Demento often had songs from the dark ages of the 1950s and even had time to play a bit of Gilbert and Sullivan once or twice. Modern Major General was a bit of a hit in the 1879 musical The Pirates of Penzance.

The odds are good that there were silly songs in Biblical times, but the means of recording these songs didn’t really show up until Edison invented the record player. Anyway. Most of the comedy records that I like are ones that I heard on Dr Demento when I was in high school twenty some odd years ago-such as the brilliant Boot To The Head.

Boot To The Head is a parody of such shows as Kung Fu and The Karate Kid, where some wise and mysterious fellow calmly talks about peace and acceptance, while beating the crap out of everyone he meets. Boot To The Head also makes a lot of sense, didn’t everyone who took a Martial Arts Class do so because they wanted to trash some bozos?
