As a matter of fact, yes. It’s like I had posted earlier: In order for me to enjoy a post-apocalyptic story, I need to feel the loss of what was.

The only way I can feel that loss is by having the following questions in the story answered: What was it that caused this situation? How extensive is it?

Otherwise, I’ll only be left pondering these questions and I won’t be able to enjoy the story.

The fine details of the end of the world are more often the stuff of Disaster fiction than Post Apocalyptic fiction.

Mad Max was a disaster film, The Road Warrior was Post Apocalyptic.

This is not to say you can’t have all the gory details, but that most PA fiction deals with people living in a world after something has happen, and the something doesn’t really matter that much.

If a small group of people are trying to survive, does it realy matter if the world is empty due to plague, EMS, nukes, zombies, alien attack, or uncontrolled gaps in the time/space continuum?

Sorry, but I completely disagree about being vague as to what caused the end of the world, especially if it’s in a timeframe recently after the apocalypse. I need the details in order to have that sense of loss. What caused the end of the world? What percentage of the world’s population ended up dying? Or even in the event of sheer destruction, how much of the world is left burned or broken or both?

This movie doesn’t hold together too well, this is like a cheap B series or a cinema student assignment, it’s just not beleivable.

Too long in parts and the atmosphere isn’t quite there. The actors avec VERY weak, and the 5 minutes flashback scene at the end before the black screen. Come on! you can hardly get more cliché than that!

I thought the girl was pretty naive and unreasonable, too. First, the hotel manager was overcharging them and she just accepts it and gets irritated at her boyfriend for complaining. Later, she convinces her boyfriend to take in a hitch-hiker who then tries to kidnap her. After her boyfriend kills the guy to save her, she blames her boyfriend and feels sorry for the hitchhiker!

Having loved ones is not the kind of weakness that will keep Anita from killing everything that gets in her way.

If anything, when someone has kidnapped one of her people this has only been another road to the bad guy’s death.

And if her loved ones were her weakness, the fact that she adds one or two or a couple of dozen new fuck buddies a book has to make at least some of them less valuable to her than others.

I agree to a point. The sex may be bountiful, but LKH has set it up so that it can be. Jean Claude is of Belle Morte’s line, and that means that everything is sex. Anita is tied to him and is obviously not as controlled, so she has to have sex more often.
And her weakness is Micah. And Nathaniel. And Asher. And Jean Claude. And Richard. And Requiem(as we learned two books ago). And her wereleopards. And the werelions. And Crisco. And Domino. And pretty much everyone else she’s fucked/loved/ever had any contact with.

Anita never received Jean Claude’s fourth mark, so she isn’t immortal.. yet. I agree, she does seem to be climbing toward godhood, and her only weakness is the people she loves around her.

She had sex with Belle Morte, and although it was in a dream, I think it counts.

I think that the fact that Larry (Hanks) does not get to make any of his own decisions is a good depiction of life in our times. When do people get to make any decisions for themselves when everything seems to be going down hill. The only thing you can do is abandon ship… is what Larry does when he goes to the bank.

I think the movies shows that it is not bad to rely on other people and to trust other people. I think that is shows the great thing about living in a civilized society… we are never alone.

Since I usually go to the movies to be entertained I rarely put that much thought into the movies before I go and therefore I am ready to be immersed in the story.

Of course, it does not hurt that I am in that place in life where I just want everything to work out and to find people that make my life better rather than always fighting to keep my head above water. So to me Larry is a hero… just not wearing tights!
