Dallas Cowboys Still America’s Team

In 1978 or so McDonalds has a promotion that gave away posters featuring the Dallas Cowboys with the catch phrase America’s Team boldly written across the bottom. I bought a couple of those posters.
According to Wikipeaida a fellow named Bob Ryan came up with this name for the Dallas Cowboys. He said:
“After the ’78 season, the Cowboys had just lost a crushing Super Bowl to the Stellers. I wanted to come up with a different twist on their team highlight film. I noticed then, and had noticed earlier, that wherever the Cowboys played, you saw people in the stands with Cowboys jerseys and hats and pennants. Plus, they were always the national game on television.”
But hey, that was the good old days, right? Not so fast. A recent Harris Poll says the Dallas Cowboys are still America’s Team-among U.S. adults who follow professional football. The shocking bit about this poll is not that the red hot Cowboys are America’s Team, but that they have been at the top of this poll, more or less since 1998. The last few years have not been the Glory Years of the Dallas Cowboys, except when it comes to putting money in Owner Jerry Jones pockets. The team is as popular as it has ever been. The prestigious Forbes magazine estimates that the Cowboys are worth about $1.1 billion, a level that makes them among the most financially valuable football teams as well as professional teams in any sport in North America.
Now all the Dallas Cowboys need to do is start winning Super Bowls again.
