Dig This on CBS Sunday Morning

Have you ever dreamed of enlarging those sandbox toys you enjoyed as a kid? Have you ever thought it would be cool to operate an excavator, bulldozer or skid steer? Dig This is your opportunity to play in the dirt – super sized. –Dig This

Bill Geist is one of the best parts of CBS Sunday Morning as he is always doing stuff that is, well, just silly. One week he bought land on the Moon. Another he learned the manly art of being a Hot Dog Vendor. This week he took that childhood joy of playing with Tonka Trucks to the next level and visited Dig This in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It’s a place where you can hop on board a twenty ton piece of heavy machinery and move earth with it.

Bill Geist of course got behind the controls and scooped up some dirt and made his own little hill. For $650 for a full day you can operate one of Dig This’s Caterpillars. One of the folks in story got a Dig This gift certificate as a wedding present and another surprised his wife with a day a Dig This. These are the kinds of machines that would come in handy when your putting in that new pool or just feel like having some fun.

The Dig This webpage is a little too cute for my taste-the mouse pointer turns into a bull dozer and there are construction noises as you scroll around the site. They also say they are looking to franchise the idea so there could be a Dig This near you soon.

To be honest I’m not really the Heavy Machinery sort, but if Bill Geist can drive a bull dozer at Dig This, I probably could too.
