McSkillet Burrito

The only time I go McDonalds is when they are either 1) having a contest where I can get free food, or 2) having a promotion where I can get free food. So I went this morning I got a free McSkillet Burrito for buying a medium drink. The McDonalds Free Burrito is about what you would expect from McDonalds. The usual breakfast stuff they have laying around stuffed into a tortilla. The McDonalds free burrito offer is good for Feb 28 and Feb 29, 2008-you do have to buy a medium or large drink to get the free burrito.

A couple of years ago I was wandering around Careerbuilder and found an ad for Taco Bell-they wanted people to work in the Test Kitchen and come up with new products using existing ingredients. I thought I would be great at this kind of job-spend all day slapping refried beans on tacos and adding a couple of shots of hot sauce-who could ask for more? But they wanted people with degrees for this job, which is kind of funny. How smart do you have to be to design a taco?

So I imagine that McDonalds has some lab somewhere with a bunch of college geeks whipping out new products at breakneck speed. The McSkillet Burrito is not bad, it’s just not all that good either. Let’s just say that Chipotle has nothing to worry about. The mixture of eggs, sausage, potatoes, and a little too much hot sauce is tasty, but my junk food heart belongs to the McGriddle. The very idea of a syrup infuse pancake used as a bun for a sausage sandwich was revolting to me, but then I ate one. It inspired one of those Homer moments of staring into space and dreamingly saying-hmm, artery clogging breakfast. . .

Getting a free McDonalds burrito is still a good deal. I’m just not sure I ever pay for one.
