Nike Football Commercial

I love this commercial. Like so many great commercials, this is one that could be for almost anything, but happens to be for Nike Footwear. NFL Football is a tough sport, but it is not usually much of an endurance sports. Nike makes it feel like an endurance sport here. Marathon running and Tour Cycling are activities that last for hours on end and test an athlete to their limits. An average play in a National Football League game lasts a matter of seconds. They may be hard seconds with some massive men pounding you like a hit and run on the freeway, but they are short bursts of effort.
So there is something really magical about this image of a couple of players,wearing Nike footwear, not stopping as they work their way down the field. They run against different teams, in different weather, on a seemingly endless playing field. The only constant is the desire to win and the Nike shoes on their feet. What if the NFL were more like the Tour De France or The New York Marathon? Nike makes you believe that it already is.
The music in this ad is also amazingly good. It is classical and emotional and I find myself feeling a bit vaklempt as the ball is stretched toward the end zone on the finial second of the spot. It’s one of those ads that makes you want to go out and do something. I’m just not sure buying a pair of Nikes would be the first thing that comes to mind.
