Odyssey 5 A Good Sci Fi Show

We saw the Earth destroyed, and in a heartbeat everything and everyone we knew was gone. –opening voice over for Odyssey 5

Odyssey 5 was one of those Sci Fi shows that popped up on Showtime in 2002 and was canceled before they aired it. Like The Outer Limits while it aired on Showtime, we are treated to a slightly more adult brand of science fiction here. These were science fiction shows that harked back to the good old days-naked women and aliens that want to eat us and take over the world. Oh yeah, and a lot of swearing.

Odyssey 5 is the story of five people who happen to be in orbit when the Earth exploded. They were rescued by a stranger who sent them back in time to try and stop the world from being blown up. There are twenty episodes in this very interesting series that never had a chance. It was not seen by many people when it first aired on Showtime, and I had never heard of it until the Wife saw a couple of episodes on the Sci Fi Channel a while back. But I liked it.

Odyssey5 is a jumble of all kinds of Sci Fi cliches. The brooding hero that just wants to do something. The mad scientist that wants to study everything. The pretty women that are really smart and just sexy, though they are sexy, too. The boy genius that saves the day. Aliens that want to take over the world, though it is never clear exactly why they want to take over the world. For all of that it was a pretty deep show that left itself a lot of room to move around in the following seasons, oh yeah, there are no following seasons.

Odyssey 5 was a good show and if you’ve never heard of it, you might want to give it a look.
