Room

Room Room was a good movie. Lots of moving moments. Great acting and a gripping story. It drifted slightly from the book, but it has been a few years since I read it.

Much like the book, the first half of Room the movie is amazing. The tale of a little boy whose whole life has been lived in a storage unit. We have a modern take on Plato’s The Cave, if you only know the world of Room, is there really any more to the world? Jack is the hero of the story and his Ma is a bit mad. Seven years of captivity and daily rape has taken its toil on her. But she does what she can to make Jack happy.

As with the book, I was not a fan of the second half of the story. They escape the captivity of the room. The mad woman and her equally odd child don’t fit in with the rest of the world. Nothing changes in the second half. They remain broken people right up to the ending credits. The story could have ended ten minutes after they left Room.

The acting was good, the sets were good, the first half of the story was great. There were a few gripping moments in the second half, but it was mostly pointless. It was a writer who kept banging out her daily words after the story was over.

Ok, so was it worth watching? Yeah, it was worth watching.
