Among my guilty pleasures is watching reality shows about people buying crap and reselling it. Storage Wars is an A&E show that works on the premise that it’s fun to watch a bunch of people fight over abandoned junk left in storage units. The show has proved so successful that it now has several clones-Storage Wars Texas, Storage Wars New York, and I recently found Storage Wars Canada. Bad Monkey

Carl Hiaasen is one of those authors whose name I see a lot, but I’ve never gotten around to reading-until now. Bad Monkey is a fractured story that follows the misfortunes of a half a dozen or so main characters.  They each have a small turn in the spotlight before returning to our real hero, a former police officer turned health inspector named Yancy. Set in Florida and the Bahamas we run across con artists, poisonous food, unwanted real estate, and a slightly mad monkey.  There are lots of funny bits here and there, even though the story contains a…

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

I liked Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol.  The story of four agents duking it out with a Supervillian and a Russian Cop.  Along the way things blow up, people get chased, cars crash, and there are a lot of pretty cool fights.  Ghost Protocol is the kind of movie you walk out of the theater looking for someone to pick a fight with-or someplace to go shoplifting. One of Tom Cruise’s super spy talents is stealing random bits of clothing, cars, phones, and just about anything else he needs from random strangers.  But hey, he does need them.  It’s not like he steals…

Paul-An Alien Road Picture

A man in black shoots a radio and says-It was a boring conversation anyway.  Just one of the many inside sci fi, super nerd jokes in the silly sci-fi flick Paul.  Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who everyone seems to think are gay, find themselves in nerd heaven-Comicon in San Diego.  As a nice follow up they decide to hit all the famous UFO sites in the western USA.  They visit the the Little A’Le’Inn and The Black Mailbox and Vasquez Rocks where the reenact the battle between Captain Kirk and The Gorn.
