The Colony

In the not too distance future-2045-the world has become a giant snowball thanks to mankind’s nasty global warming habits and his attempts to put an end to global warming.  We find our heroes in Colony 7, where once four hundred people lived, but now a good deal less are muddling through. Filmed in an old NORAD base, the sets looked pretty good and while the CGI was not great for the exterior shots, it wasn’t all that bad either. The acting was good, for the most part. Affliction

I decided to give the Anita Blake books one more chance and see if maybe Laurell K Hamilton could get back to supernatural crimes and mysteries. A good deal of the opening pages of Affliction see Anita Blake telling any number of self righteous people that there’s nothing wrong with having sex with hundreds of random strangers and it’s none of their business anyway.  In Anita Blake’s universe, just about any ‘normal’ person is now shown as a narrow minded bigot and often, a bible thumping narrow minded bigot. You’re married and only have sex with one person?  Bah! What a fuddy…

BBC’s In The Flesh

It was only a matter of time before Zombies joined the ranks of Werewolves and Vampires as merely misunderstood victims of an unfortunate accident.  In The Flesh tells the story of a recovering Zombie, a victim of Partially Dead Syndrome, who needs a daily shot of medication to keep his brain-eating tendencies at bay.  The local chapter of the neighborhood watch wants to drag him into the street and kill him.  And he keeps having these flashbacks of the last people killed and another zombie he used to hunt with.  All in all, he’s having a difficult time adjusting.
