The First Day of The Rest of Your Life

A while back I read The UltraMind Solution, a book that talks about how living in the modern world is a bad thing.  There is a free Ultramind Solution Companion Guide and I have decided to give it a try.  This is a pretty serious investment in time and effort as well as money.  The Wife looked at a few of the recipes in the guide and as ask if I was really going to cook all this stuff.  That is the plan.

For the next six weeks I will be eating more whole foods and not eating any wheat, sugar, or dairy.  I will also be exercising more-this is a good time to add  a couple of those Insanity Workouts.  I will continue the handful of things I already do that old Doc Hyman recomends-meditation, walking, yoga, and taking a wide range of vitamins and supplements.

Ok, first off, the big change will be in my diet.  The Good Doctor, like many others, hates the Western Diet and there is pretty much nothing this side of a glass of water allowed on this diet at a Fast Food Joint.  The UltraMind Solution Diet is not cheap, it calls for things like gluten free flax crackers and flax and borage oil.  There is a long list of fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices, and several kinds of nuts and nut butters.  All organic and free range and the like whenever possible. The protein in the UltraMind Solution Diet is from things like shrimp and tofu and beans.

While I was shopping for these ultra healthful foodstuffs I passed the aisles for chips and sodas and had a small pang of longing, even though I had hardly started the program.  One of the great problem with all restricted diets is that they are, hmm, restricted.  I have always thought that if I had to either go on a salt free diet or just die, I’d opt for death.  Fortunately, salt is not forbidden on this diet.  The Ultramind Solution 6-Week Program is designed to see if you feel better without wheat and dairy in your diet-the idea here being that lots of people are allergic to wheat and dairy without knowing it. Common sense tells me that real food is better than fake food.

So in six weeks I’ll see how I feel and whether or not I want to go back to eating randomly.

A Few Months Later-

I lost about 25 pounds in the six weeks I was on the Ultra Mind Solution Diet.  I felt a lot better and I ended up saving a bit of money as I cooked all of my meals instead of eating at a restaurant.

I did not change my lifestyle completely to the UltraMind method.  I still have an UltraShake every day for breakfast and I still prepare a few of meals that I especially liked from the diet.  I never did find any pomegranate molasses and I still have a lot of leftover odds and ends like tahini and chili paste and all kinds of spices I may never use.

It was worth doing and I recommend this diet to anyone and everyone.
